Batch #72

Batch 72-from the excellent 2018 vintage-is exceptionally smooth, with a ripe raspberry character indicative of Mendocino County’s sun-drenched Zinfandel wines. The bramble and berry palate is accented by a savory richness, layered over bourbon barrel notes of dried herbs and burnt vanilla.

VINEYARDS

Bob sources grapes from premium vineyards throughout California, selecting parcels which are most expressive. Mendocino County is celebrated for Zinfandel, so Bob considers Mendocino grapes as an essential component to the blend. These vineyards are located on bench land from Redwood Valley south to the Sanel Valley, a distance of 26 miles, and range in age from 9-45 years old.

BARRELS & AGING

1000 Stories begins its aging like most Zinfandels: in wine barrels. Then, the tradition transitions to innovation. Bob selects a combination of new and used bourbon barrels to complete the aging process. Each batch is crafted individually and is unique in its final profile.  Aging in bourbon barrels imparts characteristics of charred vanilla and dried herbs.

Batch 61 is a release from 2017, a vintage characterized by a warmer-than-usual climate, which allowed the grapes to ripen to their signature richness.  Batch 61 is a full-bodied, rich wine with ripe fruit notes of dried cherry and bramble. A thread of vanilla spice, mocha and butterscotch hints at the character of our older bourbon barrels..

Batch 60 is a release from 2017, a vintage characterized by a warmer-than-usual climate, which allowed the grapes to ripen to their signature richness.  Batch 60 is a full-bodied, rich wine with ripe fruit notes of dried cherry and bramble. A thread of vanilla spice, mocha and butterscotch hints at the character of our older bourbon barrels..

Batch 59 is a release from 2017, a vintage characterized by a warmer-than-usual climate, which allowed the grapes to ripen to their signature richness.  Batch 59 is a full-bodied, rich wine with ripe fruit notes of dried cherry and bramble. A thread of vanilla spice, mocha and butterscotch hints at the character of our older bourbon barrels.

Batch 58 is a release from 2017, a vintage characterized by a warmer-than-usual climate, which allowed the grapes to ripen to their signature richness. Baked fig, black currant, cinnamon and clove bound from the glass in a mosaic of aromas, segueing to a silken and spiced palate of blueberry compote, toffee and pipe tobacco.

Batch 56, which marries grapes grown throughout California in 2017’s warm and rainy climate, shows ripe, abundant fruit and spice. A bouquet of sugar plum, sun-drenched mission figs and cardamom gives way to blueberry compote, cinnamon and earthy cocoa on the palate.

Batch 57 is a release from 2017, a vintage characterized by a warmer-than-usual climate, which allowed the grapes to ripen to their signature richness. Baked fig, black currant, cinnamon and clove bound from the glass in a mosaic of aromas, segueing to a silken and spiced palate of blueberry compote, toffee and pipe tobacco.

Batch 55 embodies an opulent vintage, which saw its fruit grow amid lush rainfall and balmy temperatures. Nuanced aromas of sun-baked raspberry, crushed blueberry, freshly-turned earth and hints of nutmeg swirl in the glass, segueing to a palate of jammy blackberries, clove and caramel. This blend showcases Zinfandel’s warm, luscious character, accentuated by time spent in our charred bourbon barrels, which lent a graceful, smoky finish to the wine.
